Last weekend I was at a friend’s birthday party where this was on full display in all its glory. Soft and elegant, like something out of a fairytale, draped in mint green marzipan. I felt so inspired by how beautiful these homemade cakes were, especially this darling ✨ Princess Cake ✨

I’ve been spotting these cakes more and more recently. I’m sure you’ve seen the Ikea Princess Cake taste tests online… and yes, she is pink!

Three years ago I made this tiered cake loosely inspired by the birthday cake in Sleeping Beauty. Whatever happened in the kiln was magic because the glaze came out looking like a pearlescent Barbie cake! I named it 🪄 Princess Cake, unbeknownst to me that Princess Cakes were, in fact, a real dessert.

That same year I started making these Minne di sant’Agata sculptures made from recycled clay. They were was inspired by this intricate cake my friend spotted in Sicily (thank you for the inspo, Stella!). It had been living in my subconscious for years prior to making them.

Now THAT'S a Princess Cake!
